Among the many senior citizen service providers attending the 2016 Orange County Senior Rally Day were these two unidentified ladies representing The Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.

Attention all Vidor area seniors and their children. Next week on Tuesday morning, May 14th, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center at 11475 F.M. 1442, the Orange County AgriLife Extension Office will hold their annual Senior Rally Day. This year’s Rally will be something special since it will mark the 50th consecutive year that the Extension Service has offered this senior resource event. To honor fifty years of Rally Days, this year’s theme will be a “Red Carpet Event in Celebration of our Golden Era of Health”.

In 1965, Dorothy Ives, Home Demonstration Agent in Orange County Extension Service asked the Extension Program Building Committee to approve the since established Committee on Aging. The committee was formed with six members who studied the needs of the elderly. Annual goals to address problems plaguing seniors were established; and one of the goals were that senior clients of the extension service would become aware of the services and benefits to which are available to them, enjoy social togetherness, share ideas for marketable items, and receive recognition for their civic contributions.
