Archeologists to be digging in Vidor soon

The land along side the right hand (northeast) shoulder of Old Spanish Trail shown here running along a sand pit pond near southwest Vidor will examined by archeologists for historical artifacts.

“Indie! Indiana Jones!!! Bone diggers are descending on Vidor, Texas!” said Short Round to the famous archeologist recently. Or maybe, not. Regardless, paleontological students of antiquities will be coming to Vidor, Texas to dig some holes alongside Old Spanish Trail in southwest Vidor to see if the ground reveals any antiquities from sixteenth and seventeenth centuries buried in the sand deposit left by previous swings in the course of the Neches River.

On Wednesday, the Orange County Commissioners’ Court authorized the Orange County Judge to sign an application with the Texas Historical Commission to allow the archeological investigations necessary for new road right of way on the Old Spanish Trail roadway improvements.
