This TXDOT map of Old Highway 90 West, I-10 West and Rose City Drive shows the location of Baird’s Bayou Bridge outlined in red on Old Highway 90 between Rose City and the Optimus Steel plant entrance. The old narrow concrete bridge is slated to be rebuilt starting sometime this spring when the bridge will be closed for two years of reconstruction.

The Beaumont District Office of the Texas Department of Transportation announced that the Texas Transportation Commission has let a contract with Ragle Construction Inc.of Euless, TX to replace the Baird’s Bayou Bridge and its approaches on Old Highway 90 West between Rose City and the Optimus Steel Plant main gate. Ragle Inc. will get $3.7 million to do the job and reconstruction should last two-years.

The old bridge across the bayou has been slated for replacement for a number of years because the existing bridge does not meet current highway or bridge standards. Replacement of the bridge has been delayed because other Old Highway 90 bridges were being replaced. TXDOT was also concerned that reconstruction of the Baird’s Bayou Bridge before the completion of the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge westbound lane span could have caused severe traffic conditions.
