Pine Forest Elementary librarian Krista King was named Vidor ISD’s Employee of the Month. She was nominated by first grade teacher Kelli Dial, who says, “Krista has transformed a traditional library into an engaging learning portal for all students. She has gone beyond checking out books in a quiet setting to a totally student-centered experience. Student involvement has grown with her Lunch Bunch reading groups, Summer Reading incentives, and library assistants. Last year she created an engaging lesson on dictionary skills for my first graders after I expressed my frustration with teaching the difficult skill. Her most recent idea brought a piece of school to our students’ homes. Using our PTO Facebook page, students and their families anxiously anticipated which faculty member would read that night’s Christmas book during her ‘12 Days of Christmas.’ These are only a few examples of her effect on our students. As a PFE employee, she’s always willing to trade duty or cover someone’s duty in an emergency situation, give Tech Tips and faculty meetings, and even help transform the library to a place for showers or retirement parties.”
