Robert Viator, Jr. starts to crack a smile as he takes his Oath of Office as the new Orange County Precinct #4 County Commissioner on New Years’ Day. Commissioner Viator was administered his Oath of Office by his longtime friend, Orange County Precinct #4 Justice of the Peace Rodney Price.

It was a national holiday. New Year’s Day 2019 is usually a day for gathering with friends to watch college bowl games. And early that afternoon the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl was being played in Glendale, AZ featuring the University of Central Florida Knights against the Louisiana State University Tigers, a game that has a lot of appeal to Orange County Cajuns.

But at 2:00 p.m. a crowd of about 150 people gathered in a second floor courtroom in the Orange County Courthouse in Orange on Tuesday, January 1st to witness seven recently elected or re-elected Orange County official take their oaths of office in a mass swearing-in ceremony.

Among the seven, the former Mayor of the City of Vidor and newly elected Orange County Precinct #4 County Commissioner, Robert Viator, Jr., representing Vidor, Pine Forest, Rose City and northwestern Orange County, was on hand with relatives, friends and well wishers to raise his right hand and recite his official Oath of Office.
