Pirates drop district opener to Nederland Bulldogs 52-43

The varsity Vidor Pirate basketball team battled the Nederland Bulldogs for four quarters with several lead changes, but in the end, the Bulldogs claimed a 52-43 win.

The Pirates and Bulldogs traded baskets early until an outside shot by Gavin Jarrell erased a three point deficit to tie the game at 6 halfway through the first quarter. The Pirates went on to go up by three on the ’Dogs, but by the buzzer ending the quarter, the score was 14-13 for the Pirates.

The Pirates went up four on the Bulldogs twice in the second period, leading 19-15 and 26-22, but Nederland was able to parlay successful free throws and a buzzer beater shot to go into the locker room tied at 26.
