The varsity Vidor Pirate basketball team defeated the Buna Cougars 66-56 in Pirate Gym Tuesday night in a nondistrict game.

Leading 19-17 at the end of the first period, the Pirates began to pull ahead in the second to go up 34-27 at the half, but the Pirates hit the afterburners in the third period, outscoring the Cougars 15-4 to enter the fourth period with a commanding 49-31 lead.

Buna didn’t fold however and came back to outscore the Pirates 25-17 in the final period, but it was a case of too little, too late, as the Pirates took the win by ten, 66-56.
