Shell Pipeline makes large grant to firefighters

By George Garza

The Orange County Emergency Service District #1 was the grateful recipient of a check for $5,000 from Shell Pipeline Company as part of a help grant given to aid rural fire departments whose districts cover pipeline routes this week.

“I think this is great,” said OCESD#1 Commissioner and president of the district’s board of commissioners, Wyatt Boyett. “It’s common knowledge that appraised values of taxable properties in all of the taxing entities in Orange County will be diminished because of Hurricane Harvey. That means that our slice of the ad valorem tax pie will be smaller next year. So we are looking at ways to trim the budget, cut down on the spending and be a little bit more particular on what we spend our tax revenues on. With this donation it makes it a whole lot easier to buy equipment that we could really use for wild land firefighting.”
