VISD-CTE considers offering drilling course

This week Penny Singleton, the director of Vidor I.S.D.’s Career and Technology Education department, revealed that the Vidor High School is considering adding a course in oil and gas production to its already highly varied CTE options. “Oil and Gas Production I,” would be the course’s name and would offer students a solid preview of petroleum production theory.

There are still some details to be worked out concerning cost and staffing but Ms. Singleton said that a decision on whether to be the only school district in all of southeast Texas to offer an oil/gas well course could come before the end of the ongoing school year. She said that, if approved for addition to the Vidor High School CTE curriculum, Oil and Gas Production I could be offered to students for the first time this coming fall.
