Residents seek claim against Corps of Engineers

More than 100 Vidor residents have filed a claim against the federal government for a violation of the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution by taking their private property without just compensation.


The lawsuit filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington D. C. alleges that when the a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released record amounts of water from Dam B, Steinhagen Lake and Sam Rayburn Reservoir at the end of August and through the 11th of September, that constituted a temporary taking of the Vidor residents’ private property when the resulting flood waters deprived the plaintiffs’ of their right to use, occupy and otherwise enjoy their own private property and made the majority of the plaintiffs’’ homes uninhabitable
