Grandmother dies in hit and run collision

An area family is in grief over the tragic death of their beloved grandmother on Friday night. The unidentified family members, including the victim’s grandchild and great-grandchildren, were just leaving a Halloween venue on Highway 12 in Vidor when they witnessed the tragedy.

According to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll, the seventy-one year old victim of a vehicular hit and run collision had attended a local Halloween spook-house with her family on Friday night. Carroll said that the family’s car was parked across the highway from the venue.

Chief Carroll said that the family was leaving the event and had all crossed the highway successfully, but evidently, their grandmother, seventy-one year-old Wanda Spoonemore of Beaumont, was trailing behind, crossing the street, when a northbound passenger car struck her.
