Be alert for storm fraud and scams

With federal money starting to arrive in our area from FEMA and the Small Business Administration, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security concerning the possibility of fraudulent scammers that might be arriving in Orange County to fleece citizens out of there recent awards and loans.


The Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security told Sheriff Keith Merritt that it is indeed “unfortunate” that such a criminal element seems to follow the federal money and take advantage of citizens, especially elder citizens, to scam them out of their FEMA award or SBC Loan money.
