Pirates squeeze in scrimmage before district play begins

The Vidor Pirates will scrimmage the District 10-AAAA Hardin Jefferson Hawks at 7 p.m. Thursday Sept. 14 at Pirate Stadium.
After Harvey upended the fall 2017 school sports schedule for many schools, it appeared Vidor would be jumping into district play at a serious disadvantage, having only two scrimmages under their belt and an open first week in the revised schedule. By the time Vidor faced its first district opponent, several teams in the district would have completed two to three games and gained that valuable experience on the gridiron, placing the Pirates at a disadvantage.
Recognizing that Vidor was not the only team placed in that position, head Coach Jeff Mathews reached out and was able to add Thursday’s scrimmage, a move that should prove advantageous to both the Pirates and the Hawks as they prepare for district play to commence in the truncated 2017 schedule.
