City makes major changes to HOT tax fund disbursements as applications almost due

By Randall Luker

Vidor City Council made major changes to the way HOT tax funds will be distributed at Thursday’s regular meeting. Half of the money received will be held by the city for unspecified future use and a $10,000 maximum disbursement was set for any one organization per year. In the past, the city retained 10 percent of the tax while some organizations or individuals had received tens of thousands of dollars from the tax that is collected by local hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts and is intended to be used to promote tourism and overnight stays in the city.

These changes come as the city prepares to review and award funding for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
