Commissioners’ propose elected official salaries

Once again the Orange County Commissioners’ Court has embarked on a possible exercise in futility as they voted to propose elected official’s rates of pay for the coming fiscal year. And once again the Commissioners’ Court has voted for salary increases for nearly every elected official in the county, including themselves.

However, as we have seen in the past, state law forces the County Commissioners to set elected officials salaries long before the County’s new Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Budget has been finalized. Also in the past, those proposed salaries that were required by law to be posted in local newspapers as possible future salary increases have been consistently canceled due to no available funds.
