Few claiming grant money available for individual sewer repairs

If you had to spend $2,000 for sewer repairs, would you rather someone else pay for it or pull it out of your own pocket? For most people, the answer is obvious. That’s why water district officials are surprised that only about a third of the eligible homeowners they expected have signed up for the

 

“free” grant money available to repair leaking sewer lines on the homeowner’s private property. If an eligible property owner does not sign up for the grant, at some point in the not too distant future, they will have to pay for their own repairs or face possible fines or service disruption. The Orange County Water Control and Improvement District #1 recently refurbished their sewer system in the central portion of Vidor to eliminate the infiltration of water into the sewer system as ordered by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
