Bluebonnet Books

Every year the Texas Library association creates a list of twenty books appropriate for 3rd-6th graders . T hese books are called the Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominees. Students all across Texas are encouraged to read at least five of these books and then vote for their favorite in January. The book with the most votes across Texas i s the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Students in Mrs. Jaetzold’s 4th grade reading classes who read five or more of the Texas Bluebonnet nominees were invited to attend a “We Love Books” luncheon hosted by VE librarian, Ashley Nele , on Valentine’s day in the V.E. Library. Students ate lunch, celebrated the winning book, decorated cookies and stuffed good y bags in celebration of their accomplishment. Students who read ten or more Bluebonnet books, pictured above, were rewarded with a $10.00 gift certificate for the Spring book fair.
