The hunting trip in the high Rockies

As I read I was translated in my mind back to 1983 when I and two of my friends hired an outfitter to take us to a drop camp near the east fork of the San Juan River in southern Colorado. I had no idea of what to expect and would not have ventured on such a trip but one of my friends, Howard Simon, had been the previous year with the same outfitter. The trip that year had been successful and Howard had taken a nice bull elk. He invited me to go along and on the strength of Howard’s word I signed on for the trip and put in my deposit.
