Free thought is flagging in academia

Despite near-universal backlash over a proposal by six members of UC Irvine’s student legislature to remove the American flag from student government offices, there seems to be at least one group that agrees that the American flag is a cultural artifact of oppression: their professors. In a petition circulating online, which carries nearly 2,000 signatures, including numerous professors and graduate students, the text starts out simply enough, calling on the college to “respect their political position and meet its obligation to protect and promote their safety.”
