Vidor WWII vet awarded French Legion of Honour

A retired Gulf Oil refinery worker who fought in Europe during World War II was recently awarded the French Legion of Honour Medal by the grateful people of France. Ninety-four year-old Robert L. Jackson of Vidor traveled to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio last November where a minister with the government of France presented him and nine other WWII veterans with the special medal for their excellent military conduct in their efforts to liberate France from the Nazi German occupation during that war. As he stood on the Fort Sam Houston Parade Ground in front of the famous Brook Army Medical Center to receive his medal, Mr. Jackson said that his thoughts turned to the many fellow warriors who were shot down over the skies of Europe never to be seen again.
