Commissioners getting jump on 2016 finances

In recent years, when an Orange County department head sees that he or she is scheduled to appear before the Commissioners’ Court at a County Budget workshop meeting, the agenda notice is received with some trepidation and maybe even a little fear. The Court traditionally holds its budget workshops in August and September when they are working to trim the proposed budget to fit the anticipated income of the County. Often times this means that Department heads are asked to reconsider or even cut their budget requests. It can be a time of stress for department managers who are facing new budget mandates, increased costs and obsolete equipment.
