The campaigns that just will not end

When the election was over, many breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t necessarily because a particular candidate had won or lost, but rather that the partisan bickering had ended for a season. Also, it seemed possible that with Republicans in control of Congress and a lame-duck Democrat president the two sides might work together on middle-of-the-road legislation that would help middle- class Americans who have not yet seen much benefit out of an improved economy. Instead of an endless campaign and stalling on the big issues of the day, both parties have an opportunity to compromise and govern.
