Lori Ann Odom, 63, passed away on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, at her residence in Vidor. Born in Beaumont, TX, Lori was a devoted resident of Vidor throughout her life. She dedicated her career to the management of restaurants. Beyond her professional endeavors, Lori was a cherished member of the Red Hat Society, finding joy and camaraderie within the group. Lori will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her life partner, Mark Burge of Vidor, TX, her children Kimberly Abshire of Kinder, LA, and Geri Rich of Vidor, TX. She is also survived by her brothers, David Hight and Jimmy Hight, stepmother Mary Chesser Fomby all of Vidor, TX, along with her adored 5 grandchildren.

GRADY LOUIS SPARKS JR.

Grady Louis Sparks Jr., a cherished member of the Vidor community, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont at the age of 69. Despite years of illness, Grady showed unwavering faith and trust in a loving savior. He was full of life, love, and plenty of jokes! To know him was to love him. Grady is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet Sparks of Vidor, TX, and his children Grady Louis Sparks Ill of Bridge City, TX, and Katrina Kay Smith of Vidor, TX. He is also survived by his sisters Susan Miller of Malakoff, TX, Donna Tomplait, of Port Acres, TX, and various nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Noah and Nathaniel Smith.

MABEL MARIE PEVETO

Mabel Marie Peveto, aged 95, a cherished resident of Vidor, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 12th, 2024, at Serenity Place in Beaumont. Mabel was a beloved member of the Vidor Methodist Church, where she found solace and community. Her life was dedicated to the joys of homemaking, where her warmth and care filled her family’s lives with love. Mabel had a passion for exploration, often found traveling to new destinations, indulging in her love for reading, and embracing the art of crotchet and working through challenging word puzzles. She is survived by her loving children Donna Sue Williamson of Kirbyville, TX, and Bruce Edward Peveto of Vidor, TX. Mabel’s legacy also lives on through her 7 grandchildren, and her memory is further cherished by 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

TERRY DEAN HUMBERSON

Terry Dean Humberson, a skilled painter and lifelong resident of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Monday, May 6th, 2024, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. He was 66 years old. Born and raised in Vidor, Terry dedicated his life to his craft as a self-employed painter. His talent graced many homes and businesses throughout the community, leaving behind a legacy of artistic beauty. In his leisure time, Terry found solace in the great outdoors, indulging in his passions for fishing and hunting. Terry will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his children, Heath Humberson of Niceville, FL, and Tiffany Callender of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley Brendley of Starks, LA, Brenda Willis, Michael Dewayne Humberson, David Timothy Humberson, and Susie Manning, all of Vidor, TX. Additionally, Terry leaves behind 8 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

OPAL KATHERINE HUCKABAY

Opal Katherine Huckabay, age 90, of Vidor, passed away on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, at her residence. As a longtime homemaker, Opal poured her love and care into creating a nurturing environment for her loved ones. Opal’s kitchen was her sanctuary, where she delighted in preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. But beyond her culinary talents, Opal’s greatest joy came from spending precious moments with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. Opal is survived by her loving children, James “JD” Rogers of Vidor, TX, and Robert Rogers of Vidor, TX. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Jennifer Mayberry of Nederland, TX, Erin Seals of Buna, TX Jared Rogers of Bridge City, TX, and Jesse Rogers of Vidor, along with her 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

CLAYTON WHAYNE MAXWELL

Mr. Clayton Whayne Maxwell, age 54, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Jackson Hospital. Mr. Maxwell was born on February 28, 1970, to Darrell Whayne Maxwell and Rebecca Brown Maxwell in Texas. Clayton worked as an Engineer in Hotel Maintenance in the Montgomery, AL area. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay McCord- Maxwell, son Taylor Whayne Maxwell, daughter Rebecca Jacobs, sister Christy Ezell, and 3 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the charity of your choice. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Brookside Funeral Home, Crematorium, and Memorial Gardens in Millbrook, AL. The family will have a celebration of life service to honor Clayton’s life on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.

BUDDY WAYNE VAUGHN

Buddy Wayne Vaughn, a long-time resident of the Orange community, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 90. He spent his final moment surrounded by the warmth of his loved ones at his residence. Buddy made his mark as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a dedicated member of Faith Methodist Church, where his faith was an integral part of his life. Buddy found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Above all else, Buddy’s heart belonged to his family. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved wife of 69 years, O’Clair Oates Vaughn, and their children, Pamela Elaine Vaughn Cox, Frances Vaughn Thompson and his special daughter, Cathy Deaver Hoffpauir, all of Orange. Buddy is also survived by his devoted 11 grandchildren, 4 bonus grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

CAROL ANN JANUARY

Carol Ann January, of San Saba, Texas, passed away on May 7th, 2024, in Vidor Texas. Carol was born on November 4, 1941, to parents Adrian and Lena Neuman. Carol is survived by her sister Nancy Hart, sister Marilyn Neuman, brother Kenneth Lane Neuman, sister-in-law Norma Neuman, and her daughters Kellie Self, Alida Korns, her stepson Ruben Botello, 6 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

DALE EDWARD MCVEY

Dale Edward McVey, a beloved member of the Vidor community, passed away on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at the age of 77. He peacefully departed from his residence, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Dale found joy in the thrill of NASCAR races and the camaraderie of watching baseball, particularly supporting his beloved Arkansas Razorbacks. These passions reflected his adventurous spirit and love for sports. Dale’s greatest source of pride and joy, however, was his family. He leaves behind his daughters, Cindy Ferguson of Vidor, TX, and Misty Isenhour of Selma, NC, who will forever cherish his memory. Dale’s sister, Diane Dickson of Stonewall, LA, also mourns his loss alongside him. His legacy extends to his 6 grandchildren, as well as his great-grandchild. Dale’s love knew no bounds and was felt by each member of his family. Additionally, Dale will be remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.

MICHELLE “SHELLEY” BUFORD

Michelle “Shelley” Buford, 62, of Vidor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, at her home. She was a longtime resident of Vidor but had been residing in Evadale for the past two years. Shelley cherished her beloved dog Maggie and found immense joy in the simple moments spent with her furry companion. She had a heart of gold, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. One of Shelley’s greatest joys was tending to her garden, where her green thumb truly shone. She found solace and fulfillment in nurturing life and watching her garden flourish. Shelley is survived by her brothers Jeff Buford of Vidor, TX, and Greg Buford of Vidor, TX. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be carried on by her nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
