A monster of a moth

The state of Washington’s Department of Agriculture [WDA] is on a moth hunt but it’s not your normal, pesky moths that eat holes in your favorite woolen sweater. This moth is the humongous, giant Atlas moth with a nearly 10-inch wing span.

Lady Pirates JV and Freshmen place 2nd in Silsbee Volleyball Tournament

The Vidor Lady Pirate junior varsity and Freshman volleyball teams both nabbed second place in the Silsbee Volleyball Tournament held Thursday and Saturday. The Freshman Lady Pirates went 2-1 in pool play Thursday, then defeated Silsbee to play PNG in the Championship game.

Turnovers plague Pirates in scrimmage loss to WOS Wednesday

The threat of inclement weather prompted school officials to move the scheduled Thursday scrimmage between Vidor and West Orange to Wednesday afternoon. They beat the rainy weather and played the game under a cloudless sky and unrelenting sun.

Newspaperman writes best-seller in spare time

On Aug. 28, 1959 a book reviewer had nothing but the highest praise for a newspaperman’s first novel: “It may be a long time before a better one comes along.” Allen Stuart Drury was born in Houston during the First World War and grew up in a small California town.
