George Marshall Ferguson - Husband, Dad, Papaw, Poppy, Brother, Uncle, Neighbor and Friend - passed away after a two-week struggle with COVID pneumonia. He was 83.
He could make toothpicks jump, knock a quarter through the table and make washers disappear. And, if you were game, he'd let you hold his pet rat and feed his squirrel, Sloppy.
This hard-working pipefitter, barber, mechanic, baseball coach, wood worker and squirrel trainer is now in Heaven, trading stories with Jesus, learning some new tricks.
Born in Deweyville, TX to parents Nellie Sue and O.O. Ferguson, Marshall and his twin brother Myrl were the youngest of six.
George joined the Air Force at age 17, along with his brother Myrl. He was stationed at Nellis AFB in Nevada and Ellington AFB in Houston.
After the service, he graduated from Barber school in Houston, and cut hair for 10 years. A Regular Boy's haircut was his specialty. Hippies beware.
In 1968, George took a job at the paper mill in Evadale, TX - Temple-Eastex. He took an apprenticeship to become a Pipefitter. He would go on to become a Journeyman. Not bad for a guy with an 10th-grade education. He retired in 2003 after 35 years.
George had four kids. Marsha and Vicki from his first wife, Virginia Bean.
Scotty and Joe from Wanda (Moore) Ferguson, his wife of 48 years. Wanda passed in 2014.
And George loved his grandchildren, Shaina, Alaina and Noah.
In 2017, George married his childhood friend, Sue White (Kelley / Burks) and moved back to Bleakwood to the Kelley family hill.
Sue brought the smile back to Dad's face and put a song back in his heart, and gave him an even larger family to love. For that, we are so thankful!
George was preceded in death by siblings Faye Hawthorne, Maxine Clark, Kenneth Ferguson, Ogden Ferguson and Myrl Ferguson, and grandchildren Vance and Martin.
Welcome home, Dad.
