Janet Baker entered Heaven's gates early morning on August 8th, 2021. She is survived by her husband, three brothers and children.
Janet was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was raised with her four brothers Kenny, Bobby, David and Michael by her mother/best friend, Mary Lukenbill of Vidor, Texas. She married Raymond Baker on June 10th, 1976 and raised their four children together on the south side of Vidor. They vacationed on Lake Amanda in Colmesneil, Texas for many years until eventually making it their permanent home.
Janet was the dedicated mother of Ronnie, Scott, Brian and Tish and the honorary mother to many other children throughout her life. She was a meticulous domestic engineer who loved to decorate for every occasion and host friends/family on holidays, especially Christmas. After raising her kids, she focused on saving children around the world by supporting various anit-trafficking and God-driven agencies. She was a true patriot, lover of Jesus Christ and inspiration of positivity. She never met a stranger and found joy in everything she did. Janet will truly be remembered for her tenderheartedness, generosity, color imagination, contagious laughter, and storytelling abilities. She was affectionately called Grama Baker and nothing made her prouder than cheering on her grandchildren when they made the honor role, engaged in sports and clubs, or when they were featured in the local newspaper. There was never a visit that didn't end with belly laughter on the floor from her animated recollections of the world around her. She made you feel loved and supported, like none was more special than you in that moment.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Ray Baker, children Ronald Smith of Vidor, Scott and Kay Smith of Vidor, Brian and Teresa Baker of Channelview, and Tish and Chris Gilbert of Lumberton, as well as her treasured grandchildren, Darrin Newcomer, Phillip Duncan, Steven Smith, Matthew Smith, Kayla Best, Joey Mora, Adrianne Lira, Daniel Baker, Andrew Baker, Tabitha Harrington, and Samantha Harrington.
