He took pride in serving the people in South East Texas and made many friends along the way. He was also a member of the Evening Optimist Club and enjoyed serving his community and helping with numerous fundraisers, one of his favorite being the annual Christmas tree sale.
He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Many hours were spent with his family and friends enjoying their camp house on Toledo Bend lake or at the deer lease in Johnson City. Attending church was also very important to him. His strong Christian faith served him well during his adult life. He was an active leader in worship first at Northwest Baptist Church in Vidor where he often taught Sunday School, helped with youth, sang and even directed music when needed. He later became a member of First Baptist Church in Vidor where he continued to be active in the church.
