On March 2, we celebrate Texas Independence Day! On that day in 1836, a delegate from each of the 59 existing settlements in Texas signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. This document officially declared Texas’ independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas.

TEXAS PRESS ASSOCIATION STATE CAPITAL HIGHLIGHTS Texas once again has topped the list for new and expanded corporate facilities added in a year, according to Site Selection Magazine. With 1,028 new projects in 2022, the state had more than the next two states combined – Illinois and Ohio.

FBI Houston Teen Academy application now available online

High school students encouraged to apply The FBI Houston Field Office is now accepting applications for its upcoming Teen Academy. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the FBI Houston Field Office, located at 1 Justice Park Drive, Houston, TX 77092.

February sales tax up 14.2 percent statewide

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced said sales tax revenue totaled $3.68 billion in February, 14.2 percent more than in February 2022. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.

Dubois selected as new AD/HC in unanimous vote on Monday

In a unanimous 6-0 decision, Milton Dwayne Dubois was selected as the VISD’s new Athletic Director/Head Coach by the VISD Board of Trustees Monday night. Trustee David Camp was not in attendance. Dubois will take over from Jeff Mathews, Vidor’s Athletic Director/ Head Coach since 1999.
